Team India captain Virat Kohli and his actress wife Anushka Sharma on Monday pledged their support to the PM’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situation (PM-CARES) fund and the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (Maharashtra) in the battle against the coronavirus pandemic.

Virat took to Twitter and said that the “suffering of so many” had left him and Anushka heartbroken and hoped that their contribution helps ease “the pain of our fellow citizens”

The overall number of confirmed coronavirus cases in India has crossed the 1000-mark with over 27 deaths reported in the country due to the deadly virus.

Though the couple has not disclosed the amount, a source in the Bollywood industry close to the duo told IANS that Virat and Anushka have jointly donated Rs 3 crore towards the relief fund.

Last week, batting legend Sachin Tendulkar had donated Rs 50 lakh while out-of-favour India cricketer Suresh Raina contributed Rs 52 lakh.

A couple of days ago, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the nation to donate in the PM-CARES’ fund. Since then, various celebrities, along with the common people, are doing their bit to help India fight against the Coronavirus.
