Jos Buttler

English cricketer has made news with his IPL connections. Sources say Jos Buttler might sacrifice his international cricket career and join Rajasthan Royals, an IPL team, for four long years. The news got viral rapidly and has greatly affected international cricket.

Jos Buttler & Rajasthan Royals:

IPL franchises have spread their wings as much as they can. Ever since the expansion, the IPL team owners have tried to rope in cricketers to play for all their international franchises, and for that, they have prepared contracts that ask them to play for all their extended franchises across the world. These full-time contracts will have the cricketers saying goodbye to their national cricket teams. In this article, we will discuss whether Jos Buttler is set to leave England cricket like his national teammate Jason Roy.

In the latest update, Rajasthan Royals (RR) are preparing an offer of a 4-year-long deal to their star batter Jos Buttler to play for RR and other teams of the same management. Recently, Jos has played for RR in IPL and Paarl Royals in SA-20. But he does not participate for Barbados Royals in the CPL. So, by this contract, Buttler must relinquish his international career and seek RR management’s permission to play white-ball cricket for The Three Lions.

Jos Buttler to leave international cricket:

Jos Buttler is on the list of contracted players shared England Cricket Board the last October. Currently, he plays for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL. The Royals reportedly are planning to offer the famous English batter a lengthy contract of 4 years. This deal would mean that Buttler, who currently plays for Royals in IPL and Paarl Royals in SA-20, will also participate as a player of Barbados Royals in the Caribbean Premier League. The RR currently has franchises in 3 leagues. So, someone like Jos Buttler will be an automatic pick for them in any of the T-20 sides. The reports suggest that the offer to Buttler is worth nearly INR 40 crores for the full-time.

Besides Buttler, Mumbai Indians are also reported to present a similar proposition to Jofra Archer, while Jason Roy recently gave up his contract to sign a contract with Knight Riders. So, he will be next seen in the upcoming Major League Cricket playing for LA Knight Riders.

Impact on English cricket:

By signing this deal, Buttler will give up his national contract. Buttler is a player who can impact England’s cricket in both the white ball formats. England has already lost an opener, Jason Roy, to such a deal. The English cricket board did not contract Roy. Thus signed a similar contract with the Knight Riders franchise.

England won the 2019 ODI Cricket World Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup. In those tournaments, Buttler played a significant role. With two white ball tournaments in 2023 and 2024, someone like Buttler is essential for England’s success.

Jos Buttler & his IPL career:

Buttler made his IPL debut in 2016 after joining Mumbai Indians. He played 2 seasons with the joint-record 5-time IPL champions. In 2018, Buttler joined Rajasthan Royals and played. After that, he played a crucial role in helping the inaugural IPL winners reach the final in the 2022 season. The RR opener smashed four tons in the 2022’s season and finished as the Orange Cap holder with 863 runs.

According to the sources of The Telegraph, Jos Buttler is set to be offered a landmark deal by his IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals, which they have never offered to anyone. The contract features a massive deal worth crores of Indian rupees. However, whether Buttler is ready to accept the offer is still being determined. Additionally, the Jiapur-based IPL franchise has yet to announce the lucrative contract.

In his entire IPL career, Jos has played 96 matches, scoring 3223 runs across 8 seasons with an average of 37.92 and a strike rate of 148.32. The England captain registered 5 hundreds and 19 fifties. Even he has remained not out in 10 IPL matches. Buttler’s 2022’s season with RR was phenomenal, as he had 863 runs in 17 games.

Ahead of Jos Buttler, his colleague Jofra Archer was supposed to be offered a full-time deal worth around INR 10 crore by Mumbai Indians. England all-rounder Moeen Ali, apart from Archer and Buttler, has reportedly been targeted by the Major League Cricket for their upcoming cricket tournament. Moeen must think well, as the league has made a lucrative offer
