IPL 2021: KKR vs CSK | Match Preview & Stats

IPL 2021 KKR vs CSK

IPL 2021: KKR vs CSK – In the 15th match of this year’s IPL, heavyweights Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings will lock horns at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It will be the second game of the double-game match day on the 21st of April, 2021. The match is scheduled to start at 7.30 p.m. IST. As we all know, viewers are not allowed into the stadium in view of the country’s grave Covid-19 situation. On that note, we would ask all of our readers to stay safe and healthy during these troubled times.

KKR vs CSK – Match Preview

At the time of writing this article, all the 8 teams in the IPL have played 3 games each. KKR have lost 2 of their 3 games, winning just one and is currently languishing in the fifth position of the league. CSK have seen better fortunes in this year’s edition by winning 2 and losing 1. They are currently right behind the league leaders Royal Challengers Bangalore who have won all three games. Thus, both teams will be looking for wins with both CSK and KKR wanting to improve their position.

The pitch at the Wankhede Stadium is made up of the vintage Maharashtra red clay soil. Usually, a batting friendly pitch, bowlers might get bounce and good carry through from this pitch. This season, too, the Wankhede pitch has been good with 5 scores above 180 in 10 innings. Interestingly, teams that have won the toss here have won 4 out of the 6 games. In all the six games played in the venue, teams have opted to field first.

Kolkata Knight Riders Team News

KKR will be looking to bounce back from two consecutive defeats. They have a lot of potential in the squad and on paper they have the correct balance. It is now up to the players and the coaching staff to strike that elusive balance. As always, Andre Russell will be the star man for them but Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy may also star for the Kolkata outfit. Indian batsman Shubman Gill will be eager to find his form again. Captain Eoin Morgan will be hopeful of leading his team in returning to winning ways. Veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh is tipped to miss this game and would be replaced by Sunil Narine. We can also see Australian Pat Cummins missing out. In our opinion, his place should be taken by young quickie Shivam Mavi. There is no news of any injury within the squad.

Predicted KKR XI: Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana, Eoin Morgan (overseas)(C), Rahul Tripathi, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Shakib Al Hasan (overseas), Andre Russell (overseas), Sunil Narine (overseas), Varun Chakravarthy, Prasidh Krishna, Shivam Mavi.

Chennai Super Kings Team News

CSK, on the other hand, lost their first game but have acclimated well with Mumbai’s pitch to win back-to-back games. Currently, in the second position, they would be hoping to top the league playing an extra game on current leaders RCB. CSK will probably not be making any changes to the first eleven which has some of the most veteran Indian performers in the IPL.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been the backbone of this team and all eyes will be on Captain Cool as usual. Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja will also be looking to continue their fine form. Surprisingly, Moeen Ali has been CSK’s trump card this season with great performances in both bowling and batting departments. The CSK management might have a surprise up their sleeve in veteran batsman Cheteshwar Pujara, who might come in to open instead of Ruturaj Gaikwad. Like KKR, CSK also have a fully fit squad to choose from.

Predicted CSK XI: Cheteshwar Pujara/Ruturaj Gaikwad, Faf Du Plessis (overseas), Moeen Ali (overseas), Ambati Rayadu, Suresh Raina, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (wk)(C), Dwayne Bravo (overseas), Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Sam Curran (overseas), Deepak Chahar.

Since IPL’s inception, KKR has won just one game at the Wankhede with CSK winning a marginally better 3 games at the venue.

With both teams having their own reasons to win this match, the 15th game of this IPL season might turn into a cracker. Fans of both teams would be hoping for a win and we cannot wait for the action to begin.
