India began 2021 on a high note with a 2-1 win in the test series over Australia. They secured the Border-Gavaskar Trophy of 2020-21. This is the second successive time that they secured the trophy after they won it in their tour of Australia of 2018-19. Let us have a look at the full schedule of the India cricket team for the year 2021:
England tour of India
The England tour of India is the first series that the Indian team will be playing at home after almost one and a half years. The series is crucial as it will play a major role in deciding who will qualify for the Test Championship finals. It is supposed to be held in Lords in June 2021. The England tour of India is to begin on the 5 February 2021.
The series comprises four tests, five T20Is and three ODIs. The first two tests are scheduled to be held in Chennai while the last two will be held in Ahmedabad. The five T20Is are supposed to be held in Ahmedabad while the three ODIs are to be held in Pune. The tour is supposed to begin with the test series, which shall be followed by the T20Is and the ODIs.
The squads of both teams have been announced for the tests. Veterans Kohli, Ishant, and swashbuckling all-rounder Hardik Pandya are set to return to the squad, while paceman Natarajan has been dropped. Uncapped spinner Axar Patel has been the new inclusion in the squad. The England squad, among other players, has Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, and Rory Burns in the team, alongside the other regulars like Joe Root, James Anderson, Stuart Broad, and Moeen Ali.
Sri Lanka tour of India
This tour of India will be held in June and July. Indian team is scheduled to tour Sri Lanka during these two months for a three-match ODI series and five T20Is. No further information on this tour has been made available till now.
Asia Cup 2021
India will further its stay in Sri Lanka to participate in this edition of the Asia Cup, which is being hosted by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). The tournament is supposed to be held in June 2021 and shall comprise 12 ODIs and 1 final match.
However, as per the latest news, the BCCI is likely to withdraw from the tournament as it might clash with the finals of the Test championship. While the rest of the Asian teams have slim chances of qualifying for the finals, the Indian Team, which currently is leading the Test rankings, has a fairly great chance of qualifying.
India tour of Zimbabwe
India is scheduled to tour Zimbabwe in July 2021, before it flies off for England. The two teams are supposed to face off for a three-match ODI series. The matches are supposed to be held in Harare Sports Club and Bulawayo.
India tour of England
The India tour of England, which consists of a five-match test series; is supposed to be held in the months of August and September. The first test is supposed to be held from 4th August – 8th August 2021.
The last test is supposed to be held from 10th September to 14th September 2021. The venues of the tests and schedule has been announced, but no further information on the squads is available now.
South Africa tour of India
South Africa is set to tour India in September, 2021. The teams will play 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is. No information is available on the squads or the venues of the matches.
ICC T20 World Cup 2021
The seventh edition of the ICC T20 Men’s T20 Cup is supposed to be held in India in the months of October and November 2021 after being postponed from 2020 due to the pandemic.
West Indies are the current champions. The hosts will be eyeing the trophy as well given their record in T20Is.
New Zealand tour of India
New Zealand will be touring India in November-December for two tests and three T20s.
India tour of South Africa
India will end its year with its tour of South Africa in December for three tests and three T20Is.
