T20 cricket leagues have started resuming all over the world, especially since the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Dream 11 Super Smash 2020-21, the sixteenth season of the domestic T20 tournament of New Zealand starts from the 24th of December 2020.
The competition shall comprise a total of 32 games which shall be held over a period of approximately two months with the final scheduled to be held on the 14th of February 2021. Both the men’s and women’s version of the tournament shall be held together, thus promising cricket fans a series of exciting matches.
The two versions of the Dream 11 Super Smash tournament will have six teams playing respectively. The men’s version will have Otago Volts, Wellington Firebirds, Auckland Aces, Canterbury Kings, Central Stags, and Northern Knights playing. The women’s version will have Otago Sparks, Wellington Blaze, Auckland Hearts, Canterbury Magicians, Central Hinds, and Northern Spirits. This series will mark yet another attempt to resume sports all over the world since the start of the pandemic.
New Zealand, which has been lauded internationally for its management of the pandemic, began its domestic summer season on October 19, 2020. Players showing COVID-19 symptoms during a match can be immediately replaced but they can return if the result turns negative. The application of saliva on the balls has also been banned. The umpires and match referees are responsible for overseeing all these measures. With such strict rules and injunctions in place, the competition promises to be a safe and exciting one.
Dream 11 Super Smash Tournament Overview
Both the Wellington teams had been the champions last time. In fact, Wellington Blaze will be looking at capturing the trophy for the fourth time in a row. The very first match of the two versions was held between the Wellington teams and the Auckland teams. The Wellington teams have won both the games, making their claim to the cup stronger. The Auckland Aces gave the Wellington Firebirds a challenging time while chasing the score, and they managed a last over finish. The Blaze’s chances of winning were strengthened by the all-round contribution of Melie Kerr. This does not mean that the other teams shall not be looking to give their best.
The HBJ (Hallyburton Johnstone) Shield, the domestic one-day competition for women, saw multiple impressive performances from different players of the six teams. Currently, the Canterbury team is leading the Shield. The men’s one-day competition, too, saw a tough competition in the pre-Christmas phase with Northern Districts, Canterbury, and Otago Volts poised to make it to the playoffs. The two most in-form sides for the Dream 11 Super Smash T20 tournament are Canterbury and Northern Knights. Given the intense competition the one-day series have witnessed, one can surely expect some good cricket in this tournament as well. Dream 11 Super Smash Important Players
The preceding one-day competition have brought multiple in-form players to the limelight for both versions of the Dream 11 Super Smash T20 tournament. Canterbury has an extremely reliable player in Ken McClure, who has scored seven centuries in this one-day season. Jeet Raval has been in-form too and has had a fine one-day season so far playing for the Northern Districts. Veteran batsman Hamish Rutherford of Otago has been in fine form this time. Michael Rae of Otago and Brett Randell of the Northern Districts have also been remarkable with the ball.

Jacinta Savage of Canterbury has been brilliant with both the bat and the ball in the one-day competition. Kate Chandler of Wellington has shone with the ball this season.
