Bangladesh cricket team’s 2021 Schedule

Bangladesh cricket Schedule 2021

The Pandemic situation that had brought the world to a halt seems to be over for the most part. While the onslaught continues, people are now better prepared to deal with the situation. It is in the spirit of such preparation that even cricket has started adapting to the new normal. If the calendar plans are to be believed, the Bangladesh cricket team has an incredible lineup going into the next few months of play. Given that they have formed a new team, under the able leadership of Tamim Iqbal, and have a mix of young and experienced faces alike, it would be great to see where the team goes from here. Here’s the Bangladesh Cricket Schedule 2021:

West Indies tour of Bangladesh

The West Indies tour of Bangladesh is a series which is already underway. The visitors had reached Bangladesh on the 10th and the series was formerly supposed to start from the 20th following a warm up match. The tour shall consist of three ODIs and two tests and shall end on 15 February.

Therefore, the series is being closely watched by fans and opponents alike for the return of the experienced Shakib al Hasan from his ICC ban. The teams for the tour are as follows:

Bangladesh ODI Team

Tour to New Zealand

The second tour that Bangladesh has lined up for this calendar year is their tour to New Zealand. Now, this tour has long been in the making and was scheduled to have been held in August and September 2020. However, given the raging pandemic back then both Bangladesh Cricket Board and New Zealand Cricket were of the opinion that the series should be postponed to a later date as new infections in the team could give rise to complications. At that point of time, Bangladesh Cricket supremo Nizam Uddin Chowdhury noted,

“In the present COVID-19 pandemic scenario, hosting a full cricket series in August 2020 will be a challenge in terms of preparations and we cannot take chances with the safety and health of players, support staff and related stakeholders […] Under these circumstances, the BCB and NZC have felt that the best way forward would be to defer the series. We realise that this will be hugely disappointing for the players and officials of both teams; not to mention the fans of the two nations but I must thank NZC for its understanding and for recognizing the rationale behind such a decision.”

Finally the wait seems to be over with the tour being scheduled March 2021. Bangladesh is scheduled to take on the Kiwis for a total of 3 ODIs and 3 T20 internationals.

Asia Cup 2021

As far as multilateral tournaments in the subcontinent go, the Asia cup is by far one of the most prestigious of the lot; with India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan all looking to clinch the trophy. This year the tournament is to be hosted by Sri Lanka. There seems to be some debate regarding India’s participation in the series as BCCI would look to balance the tournament in an already jam-packed Indian schedule. There, however, has been no final decision on that front and the door remains open for India’s participation.

Tour to Zimbabwe

The next tour on schedule is Bangladesh’s tour of Zimbabwe. The visitors are scheduled to play a grand total of 3 ODI Internationals, 3 T20 International  and 2 tests. The ODI series would form a part of the World Cup Super League.

England tour of Bangladesh

The English is scheduled to tour Bangladesh for 3 ODIs and 3 T20 Internationals tentatively in the month of October 2021. The ODIs much like the ones with Zimbabwe would form a part of the World Cup Super League.

ICC T20 World Cup

Played among 16 nations; the world cup of the shortest format of cricket is scheduled to be held in India tentatively during the months of October and November. With Bangladesh all set to play in the tournament; it would be vital to see how they go about the task of managing such a busy schedule.

Pakistan tour of Bangladesh

The months of November and December 2021; has Bangladesh playing host to Pakistan over 2 Test matches as a part of the Test Championship and 3 T20 Internationals.

Many of these are tentative dates and can be subject to change.
