Ali Khan of USA to joins KKR squad in UAE

For the first time, IPL will see an American cricketer Ali Khan as the direct replacement of quick bowler Gurney for IPL 2020. A 29-year-old quick bowler from the USA. He will replace the harmed Harry Gurney, who pulled out of the IPL and is set to go through a shoulder injury.

Ali Khan was part of the Trinbago Knight Riders’ squad which remained unbeaten route to their CPL title win. In the tournament, Khan picked up eight wickets from eight matches with an economy rate of 7.43. As per reports, Khan was on KKR’s radar last season as well but no deal could be worked out.

Who is Ali Khan?

Ali Khan was born and raised in Pakistan. His family moved to Ohio when he was 18. The USA fast bowler is a T20 globetrotter and has featured in the Caribbean Premier League, Pakistan Super League, Global T20 Canada, Abu Dhabi T10 league, Bangladesh Premier League, and few other leagues.

Khan was the only player from USA who had registered for IPL 2020 auction. His name didn’t come up during the auction. He had also registered for IPL 2019 auction.

The right-arm pacer has been part of Trinbago Knight Riders since 2018. He scalped 16 wickets in 2018, 10 wickets in 2019 and eight wickets in 2020.

He may be the first USA player to be signed by an IPL franchise but there have been two players in the past who played for the USA after their IPL stint. Punjab’s Sunny Sohail was a member of Kings XI Punjab, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Deccan Chargers in IPL before moving to the USA. He also played for Punjab in domestic cricket. Rusty Theron, who played for South Africa and in IPL, now represents the USA.

Khan has also played nine List A matches and 36 T20s so far. He may be short of experience but has played in almost every part of the world.

Kolkata Knight Riders will begin their IPL 2020 campaign against defending champions Mumbai Indians in Abu Dhabi on September 23.

The IPL 2020 will start from 19th September 2020 to 10th November 2020 in the UAE across three venues –Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah.
