Yograj Singh

Former Indian cricketer, actor, and father of legendary athlete Yuvraj Singh, Yograj Singh is once again in the news for calling out his son’s former teammates and the unjust they allegedly caused him.

In a recent interview with News24, Yograj spoke about how several members of the Indian cricket fraternity, including the two captains of the Men in Blue, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli ‘backstabbed’ Yuvraj.

“Along with these two (Dhoni and Kohli), I would say that even the selectors betrayed him. I had met Ravi recently. He asked me for a photograph. I called him and pointed out that all great players should get a send-off based on their performances,” he said.

“Indian selector Sharandeep Singh, he used to go to meetings and say that Yuvraj should be dropped. Such people are appointed as selectors who do not know ABC of cricket. What do you expect from them?,” he added.

His statement comes about a month after Yuvraj Singh admitted that he didn’t get as much support from Kohli and Dhoni as he did under the leadership of Sourav Ganguly.

“I have more memories of time under Sourav because of the support he gave me. I didn’t have that kind of support from Mahi and Virat (Kohli),” Yuvraj Singh had said in an interview with Sportstar.

For years, Yograj Singh has been vocal in criticising former Indian skipper MS Dhoni and has blamed him time and again for the hard time his son face in getting picked for the Playing XI, despite performing and being in good form and his eventual ouster from the team rotation.

He even blamed Dhoni for the unfortunate way in which Ambati Rayudu’s international cricketing career came to an end.

In July 2019, NNIS Sports quoted Singh Senior saying: “Rayudu, my son you took the decision in haste. Come out of retirement and show them what you are capable of.

“People like MS Dhoni will not remain forever, filth like these will not remain forever,” said the 61-year-old.

However, current Indian captain, Virat Kohli seems to be the new addition to his plethora of targets. “It hurts when someone backstabs you. Everybody was worried about what would happen to them if Yuvraj continues to perform,” he added.
